Use of Force
2020 January – June
Within the first six months of 2020, the Livonia Police Department handled 18,529 Calls for Service initiated by either the public or police.
Of those Calls for Service, 14 (or approximately 7.5 out of every 10,000 Calls for Service) involved the Use of Force. Of the 14 Uses of Force, seven (7) involved individuals requiring mental health intervention; three (3) were operating a vehicle while intoxicated; one (1) was domestic assault; one (1) for warrant arrest; one (1) for drug crimes; and one (1) for drunk and disorderly.
Each use of force incident requires its own investigation to determine the legality of the use of force and if the use of force conforms to department policy.
The results of the investigations confirmed no violations of law or policy in the above incidents.
